The Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV) is an historic public/private partnership between the U.S. federal government (led by the Technology Administration at the Department of Commerce, and including 7 agencies and 19 federal laboratories) and DaimlerChrysler, Ford, and General Motors that aims to strengthen America's competitiveness by developing technologies for a new generation of vehicles. Announced at the White House on September 29, 1993 by President Clinton, Vice President Gore, and the CEOs of the domestic auto makers, this national government/industry research program also includes research support for over 350 automotive suppliers, universities, and small businesses. The Schatz Energy Research Center has over sixteen years of experience working in the areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency and hydrogen energy systems. SERC s mission is to promote the use of clean and renewable energy. SERC works primarily on research and development, technology demonstration, project development, energy systems analysis, and education and training. In addition, SERC performs feasibility studies, resource assessments, and energy planning studies. Examples of past projects include the design and development of custom proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells and fuel cell test stands, zero emission vehicles, and solar hydrogen power systems.
