The Development Center for Appropriate Technology (DCAT) was founded in 1991 as a 501(c)(3) public service nonprofit organization for the purpose of supporting the development and use of sustainable approaches to meeting human and ecological needs through the appropriate use of technology. We know that today's complex problems cannot be solved by using technology independent of its context. To be appropriate, technology must be connected to the place, resources, economics, culture, and impacts of its use. We carry out our work in that larger context through a variety of interrelated projects based on principles of education, leadership, leverage, and synergy.

PureBuild Inc. designs and builds elegant, energy efficient homes in Tucson and Southern Arizona. We build using a variety of earth friendly wall systems including rammed earth, adobe, pressed earth block, icf, and insulated concrete block (according to our clients' preference). We incorporate passive solar design into our plans and have also built "off the grid" houses which rely entirely on solar equipment and propane. In addition, we are building a new urbanist, sustainable neighborhood in the Mercado District of Menlo Park. Besides our residential design and general contracting services, we can act as a rammed earth wall subcontractor on residential or commercial projects.
