The World Energy Council is a global, multi-energy, non-governmental, non-commercial organization devoted to promoting the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all. With committees and activities in over 90 countries, including most of the largest energy producing and consuming countries in the world, WEC conducts research and policy studies, as well as technical and regional programmes. This work cycle culminates in a triennial World Energy Congress, which in 2007 will be held in Rome, Italy. WEC Member Committees and the energy-related companies which support them share information, collaborate on new technologies, and offer reliable policy or strategy recommendations to assist decision-makers in business and g...
Established in 1992 during the second World Renewable Energy Congress in Reading, UK, WREN is one of the most effective organizations in supporting and enhancing the utilisation and implementation of renewable energy sources that are both environmentally safe and economically sustainable. This is done through a worldwide network of agencies, laboratories, institututions, companies and individuals, all working together towards the international diffusion of renewable energy technologies and applications. Representing most countries in the world, it aims to promote the communication and technical education of scientists, engineers, technicians and managers in this field and to address itself to the energy needs of both developing and developed countries. Over two billion dollars have now been allocated to projects dealing with renewable energy and the environment by the World Solar Summit and World Solar Decade along with the World Bank. This shows that at last the important message is being heard. The renewable energy community has exhibited a lot of courage, stamina and willpower, demonstrating renewable energy to be a viable energy provider. We should continue at a faster pace.

Launched in July 1998, PVMTI is intended to promote PV-based energy services in India, Kenya and Morocco. The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has provided US$30 million in concessional funds for IFC to support investments in private sector projects to encourage market development for photovoltaics, which support climate change mitigation. By converting sunlight into clean and highly reliable power, PV can help to meet the energy requirements of local customers and businesses while at the same time making a contribution towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which are thought to be responsible for anthropogenic climate change. - Business type: nonprofit organization
