COGEN Europe - The European Association for the Promotion of Cogeneration - U.S. Combined Heat and Power Association (USCHPA) - Combined Heat and Power Association (CHP) - Australian EcoGeneration Association (AEA) -
Cogeneration is nowhere reaching its full potential in Europe. At present itis used to produce only about 10% of the EU's electricity - but at least 30%is achievable. COGEN EUROPE was created in 1993, with support from DG XVII (now DG Energy and Transport) of the European Commission, to reflect the clear need for great cooperative efforts at a European Level to unlock the full potentialfor Cogeneration.
The U.S. Combined Heat and Power Association (USCHPA)and its members are committed to deploying efficient, low-polluting technologies throughout the country. The association advocates that combined heat and power receive recognition by U.S. federal, state and local governments as a key environmental and economic development strategy. Members include Solar Turbines, Caterpillar, NiSource, Calpine, Real Energy, the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy and the Northeast-Midwest Institute.
The Combined Heat and Power Association works to promote the wider use of combined heat and power and community heating. Combined Heat and Power (CHP) technology is now in use in a large and growing number of locations in the UK and it is likely that there will be at least double of today's 3.8GWe of capacity by the year 2010. This will bring with it many environmental gains including significant reductions in emissions of greenhouse gases.
