With the launch of electric restructuring and the advent of retail choice in California as of March 1998, the Renewable Energy Marketing Board (REMB) was formed as a collaborative effort by renewable generators, renewable marketers, and non-profit environmental organizations. The REMB, a not for profit organization, seeks to inform electricity consumers of the public and private benefits of renewable energy resources and products and promote renewable energy and products generically. Energy activism and information
RELI is a membership-based, not-for-profit organization promoting clean, sustainable energy use and generation for Long Island. RELI seeks public participation in energy policy decisions to encourage energy efficiency, use of renewable energy sources, and to protect our environment, economy, and public health.
The Renewable Energy Policy Project was launched in August 1995with the support and advice of the renewable energy community. Since itsinception, REPP has investigated the relationship between policy, marketsand public demand in accelerating the deployment of renewable energytechnologies, which include biomass, hydropower, geothermal, photovoltaic,solar thermal, wind and renewable hydrogen. In 1999, REPP and the Center forRenewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (CREST) merged. The combinedorganization (named REPP-CREST) boasts a strong platform for disseminationof data regarding sustainability. REPP-CREST's web site, the award-winningportal on sustainable energy, provides access to a broad range of topics:innovative public policy reports generated by REPP, interactive media,renewable energy success stories and informative on-line discussion groups.The partnership between REPP and CREST offers government, corporate,academic, and non-profit decision makers, as well as consumers, timelyanalysis, suggests dynamic strategies, and enrolls new partners forrenewable energy and sustainable development.
In 1994, a broad coalition of public-interest organizations and energy companies created the Renewable Northwest Project (RNP) to promote renewable energy development in the region.
