The Sustainable Energy Society of Southern Africa or SESSA, as it is more affectionately known, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting and increasing the use of renewable energy. Renewable energy technologies include all solar-based energies such as photovoltaics, thermal heating and cooling, wind, biomass and hydro, to name a few. Other utilization possibilities of this principle source of energy are in passive building design and energy efficiency. The inter-disciplinary nature of SESSA attracts the membership of industry, scientists, researchers, developers and the general public – the only qualification is a keen interest in renewable energy and its utilization to ensure a sustainable energy future. SESSA was founded in 1974 and is one of 50 National Sections of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES). ISES is regarded as the premier body in solar energy with members in over 100 countries. SESSA is the duly appointed African office of ISES.
The South African Wind Energy Association is a non-profit organisation established to further the use of wind energy in South Africa. We lobby government, build links with business and labour organisations, and inform people of the economic and environmental benefits of using wind energy for electricity generation.
The combined programs of the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC) provide one-time certification, national recognition, product credibility, and standardized comparisons of solar energy products. The SRCC programs serve three primary constituencies: the solar energy industry, solar consumers, and state and federal regulatory bodies. All three constituencies benefit from the SRCC programs by obtaining a national state-of-the-art rating system, a mechanism to develop consumer confidence, and rational and defensible criteria for tax credit qualification and other solar incentive programs. - Business type: nonprofit organization

Since 1992, over 3,200 students have attended hands-on workshops on renewable energy, ecological design, sustainable living practices and alternative construction techniques like strawbale, cob, and bamboo. Students come from all over the United States and from abroad to attend classes taught by professionals in the field. Since 1995, over half a million people have visited our 12-acre demonstration center located in Hopland, California. The site is powered entirely by working renewable energy systems, and features a 5,000 sq. foot strawbale building with innovative passive solar design and the creative use of recycled materials. The gorgeous landscape features a permaculture design with a wide selection of organically grown edible and ornamental plant varieties. Interactive displays and specialized tours make the Solar Living Center a major destination and regional learning center for school groups, environmentalists, design professionals and the general pub!lic.
